The Felix Van

An estimated 931 million tonnes of food is wasted every single year, equalling the weight of 23 million fully-loaded 40-tonne trucks, enough to circle the Earth 7 times, according to a new report published by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP, 2021).

This staggering amount is shocking when millions of people in the UK regularly experience hunger. However, thanks to organisations such as The Felix Project, there is hope for change. This year we have partnered with The Felix Project is London’s largest food redistribution charity.

‘We rescue good food that cannot be sold and deliver it direct to charities and schools serving people in need. Our vision is a London where no one goes hungry and good food is never wasted. We are on a mission to deliver 38 million meals this year.’ (The Felix Project, 2021)

The Felix Project deliver food to almost 1000 front-line charities, primary schools and holiday programmes in London ensuring that vulnerable people, homeless, people with mental health or those who cannot simply afford to buy regular food are receiving a healthy meal that would have gone to waste.

Having heard of their plight, highlighted by the pandemic, MC Group wanted to work with The Felix project to help support this increasingly serious situation. Alongside donations and volunteering, MC Group looked to find more ways to support the organisation.

Simon Dawson, Managing Director of MC Group said “As a company within the transport industry, one of the most logical ways we could offer practical assistance was by donating a van, to help increase capacity ultimately meaning more food can reach those in need. We at MC are extremely grateful for the ongoing work of The Felix Project and offer our continued support to this excellent cause.”

We spoke to Mark Simpson, Director of Operations at The Felix Project:

‘We are so grateful to MC Group for providing us with a brand new van for our Park Royal depot. Our vans play a crucial role in the operations of The Felix Project, carrying huge quantities of fresh, nutritious food to our partner charities and primary schools. Donating a van will enable us to increase the amount of food we are able to distribute and be critical in The Felix Project upscaling in 2021 to deliver enough food for 38 million Londoners. We look forward to continuing to work with all within MC Group throughout 2021’
