Long standing Volvo customer T.W. Plummer & Son has strengthened its fleet with the addition of two new Volvo FH Aero trucks, supplied by Lewis Davies at MC Truck & Bus.
One truck will operate within the company’s established haulage business, replacing an older Volvo model. The second will support the launch of Events Logistics Solutions, a new venture providing specialist transport services for touring events across Europe. As a result, the business is well positioned to support both its existing customers and future growth plans.

The decision was driven by two key factors: fuel efficiency and driver comfort. Having already experienced the benefits of Volvo’s turbo compound technology, the company was keen to take advantage of the improved aerodynamics offered by the FH Aero range.
Jonathan Walker, Owner of T.W. Plummer & Son, said “Opting for the FH Aero was a straightforward decision for us. Fuel efficiency is critical in our sector and having experienced the potential of Volvo’s turbo compound technology first-hand already, we were excited to extend that potential even further with the FH Aero’s aerodynamic design.”
He added “We are already seeing strong results from our existing trucks and expect the new additions to push that even further. Alongside that, the driver comfort and latest driver support systems have made a strong impression too.”
The latest Volvo FH Aero combines advanced engineering with aerodynamic improvements to help reduce fuel consumption.
Both vehicles are powered by Volvo’s Euro 6 D13TC Step E engine, producing:
Together, these technologies help optimise fuel use and maintain efficient performance on long distance journeys.
How does I-See Improve Fuel Efficiency?
I-See uses predictive cruise control technology to analyse upcoming road conditions. The system then adjusts speed and gear selection automatically. As a result, drivers can maintain momentum more effectively and reduce unnecessary fuel consumption.
Driver wellbeing remains a key priority for T.W. Plummer & Son. Therefore, both Volvo FH Aero trucks have been specified with spacious Globetrotter XL cabs, providing a comfortable environment for long days on the road.
The specification includes:
These features help improve comfort during UK and European operations while supporting driver satisfaction and productivity.
Both trucks also feature Volvo Dynamic Steering, an advanced system that reduces steering effort by up to 85%. This technology helps drivers manoeuvre more easily at low speeds while maintaining stability at higher speeds.
As a result, it can help reduce fatigue, increase comfort and improve road safety throughout the working day.
One of the Volvo FH Aero trucks will operate exclusively for Events Logistics Solutions, a brand new division within the business. The specialist operation will transport equipment for touring events and productions across major European destinations.
Because these routes often involve long distances and strict schedules, fuel efficiency, uptime and driver comfort were major considerations during the vehicle specification process.

The fleet also benefits from Volvo Connect, Volvo’s connected services platform. This system provides valuable operational data, including:
Consequently, T.W. Plummer & Son can make informed decisions that support efficiency and productivity across its operation.
Both FH Aero trucks are backed by a comprehensive two year Volvo Gold Contract. The agreement covers servicing and maintenance while helping maximise vehicle availability.
With one truck expected to cover up to 140,000 km annually and the second projected to travel around 100,000 km each year, maintaining uptime is essential for the business.
As a third generation family business, T.W. Plummer & Son has built a strong reputation for delivering reliable haulage services throughout the UK and Europe. The addition of two new Volvo FH Aero trucks demonstrates the company’s continued commitment to efficiency, driver welfare and customer service.
