Shoreham Port has taken a major step towards sustainability by adding a Volvo FH Aero Electric 6×2 tractor unit to its fleet. MC Truck & Bus supplied the vehicle. This marks the Port’s first move into heavy-duty electric transport.
The Volvo FH Aero Electric is a fully electric heavy duty truck. It is built for regional and long haul work. The truck produces zero tailpipe emissions and delivers strong performance. It also offers up to 300 km of range, fast charging and advanced safety systems. To learn more about the Volvo FH Aero Electric on the official Volvo site.
Shoreham Port handles around two million tonnes of cargo each year. As a result, reducing emissions is a key priority.
By introducing the Volvo FH Aero Electric, the Port is taking a clear and practical step towards decarbonisation. At the same time, it can continue to meet daily transport demands.
The Electric Volvo truck combines performance with efficiency. It is designed to handle demanding operations while lowering emissions.
Key features include:
In addition, the I-Shift gearbox delivers smooth and responsive driving.

This Volvo can travel up to 300 km on a single charge. However, range depends on load and driving conditions. The truck also uses regenerative braking, which recovers energy during use. This helps extend the overall range.
The FH Aero builds on Volvo’s latest aerodynamic design, helping to reduce drag and energy consumption. Improved free-rolling capabilities also allow energy to be regenerated during braking and downhill driving, extending usable range.
Safety and visibility are enhanced through Volvo’s Camera Monitoring System (CMS), which replaces traditional mirrors. This system improves the driver’s field of view and adapts automatically when manoeuvring with a trailer, making it particularly beneficial in busy port environments.
To suit Shoreham Port’s operational needs, the vehicle has been specified with a rear-steer tag axle, delivering increased manoeuvrability in confined spaces. The truck is also supported by a comprehensive five-year Volvo Gold Contract, covering maintenance, repairs and proactive monitoring. This ensures maximum uptime and peace of mind for the Port’s team.
With a fleet of 20 commercial vehicles, this investment represents an important first step in Shoreham Port’s long-term strategy to embrace cleaner transport solutions.
