As everyone knows this year has been tougher than ever. In support of #LovetheLorry week, (commencing 16th November until 22nd November) we are taking this opportunity to celebrate all the key workers who have performed outstandingly during the COVID 19 pandemic. The RHA is calling on the UK to “shine a light” on the transport and logistics industry. From keeping supplies flowing to hospitals and shelves full within supermarkets to goods being delivered to our homes, it is true to say that the sector has worked tirelessly during these unprecedented times.
It goes without saying that the transport industry make the world go round and are an essential part of the economy here in Britain. Being the 5th largest industry in the UK, the sector employs 205 million people and contributes £124 billion to the UK economy. COVID 19 has highlighted not only how important the industry is more than ever but the ability to adapt and continue to support us, feed us and keep us safe. 99% of everything we consume in the UK sits on the back of a truck at some point and as stated by Grant Shapps secretary of State for Transport “every single person has relied on an HGV hero” at some point if not several times this year.
RHA chief executive Richard Burnett said: “National Lorry Week provides the perfect opportunity for the nation to say ‘thank you’ to these unsung haulage heroes”. Burnett also stated that “On Thursday 19 November at 8pm we want you to ‘Shine a Light’ for the logistics industry – for the truck drivers, warehouse staff, managers, technicians, mechanics, fitters and so on – the ones that keep this great industry on the road.”
From everyone at MC Group please join us at 8pm Thursday 19th November to “shine a light” to show our appreciation for the UK logistics sector. Moreover, we want to personally express our gratitude towards all our hardworking team members and supportive customers who have kept things moving this year.
