Volvo Trucks is making a major leap forward in sustainable transport with its latest innovation: the Volvo FH Aero Electric. This new heavy-duty electric truck redefines zero-emission logistics, offering an impressive 600 km range and superfast charging that powers the battery from 20% to 80% in just 40 minutes.
Long-distance freight contributes significantly to CO₂ emissions. Until recently, electrifying this segment posed a major challenge. However, Volvo’s newest truck changes that. It provides a reliable, zero-emission solution for companies looking to reduce their carbon footprint without compromising on performance.
Roger Alm, President of Volvo Trucks, explained:
“This is a real breakthrough in zero-emission transport. Now, transport companies can operate really long distances with electric trucks without compromising on productivity.”
The truck supports the Megawatt Charging System (MCS), enabling ultra-fast battery charging. It also includes CCS2 compatibility for up to 350kW, offering greater flexibility for fleet operators.
Built with a 6×2 tag axle, the FH Aero Electric suits UK operation at 44 tonnes and 46 tonnes in the Republic of Ireland. Thanks to innovative e-axle technology, the vehicle holds up to 780 kWh of battery capacity—delivering long range without sacrificing payload.
Volvo already has eight electric truck models in production, making it a global leader in heavy-duty electric transport. Since the launch of its first electric model in 2019, Volvo has delivered over 4,900 electric trucks across 49 countries. This strong track record highlights the company’s commitment to innovation and sustainability.
Volvo aims to reach net-zero emissions by 2040, guided by a strategic, three-part approach:
Battery Electric – Zero-emission trucks for short, medium, and long-haul routes.
Fuel Cell Electric – Hydrogen-powered trucks for extended range and heavier loads.
Renewable Fuel Combustion – Alternative fuels like HVO and biogas for immediate carbon reduction.
This multi-solution strategy ensures flexibility for businesses at all stages of the transition to green transport.
The Volvo FH Aero Electric is scheduled for launch in Q4 2025, with pre-orders now open. Customers can sign a letter of intent to reserve units early and stay ahead in the move toward clean logistics.
